For teachers, tuition and coaching classes

Record grades once, and stop retyping them

Enter the marks for a test against the batch, and the per-student history, the class average and the progress report all come from that one entry. Nothing gets copied into a second sheet, which is where marks usually go wrong.

How do I record grades online?

In Veda you enter marks once against the test for your batch, and the per-student history, the class average and the progress report are all derived from that one entry — nothing is retyped into a second sheet. Students see only their own marks, and nothing is published. Free for the teacher, with no per-student charge.

The second sheet is the problem

One entry, every view derived from it

Marks usually live in three places — the answer script, a notebook, and a spreadsheet typed up at term end. Each copy is a chance to transpose a digit, and the report is built from the last copy rather than the first. Here the marks are entered against the assessment once and every figure after that is calculated, not re-entered.

  • Marks recorded against the test, per student
  • Per-student history builds up across tests
  • Class average and distribution calculated, not typed
  • The progress report is derived from the same numbers
The question a report should answer

Who is slipping, not just who is behind

A ranked list tells you who is at the bottom, which you already knew. What changes a conversation is the direction of travel: a student who moved from 62% to 71% is doing something right, and one who fell from 88% to 71% is not — and they should not receive the same letter home.

  • Trend per student, not only the latest mark
  • Per-class view, so a bad paper is visible as a bad paper
  • The question most of the class got wrong, where the test was a quiz
  • A progress report a parent can read without translation
Yours, and only yours

Marks are not shared anywhere by default

Grades are the most sensitive thing a teacher keeps. Attendance, grades, reports, answer keys and question papers are yours alone — a student in your class sees their own record and nobody else's, and no part of this is published or visible to other teachers unless you share it.

  • A student sees their own marks, not the batch's
  • Nothing is published to the web
  • Share a report deliberately, per student
  • Free for the teacher, with no per-student charge
What gets recorded

The assessments this is built for

Weekly batch tests

The common case in tuition and coaching: short, frequent, and worthless if the marks are never aggregated.

Unit and term tests

Marks out of a total, per subject, with the trend across the term doing the real work.

Quizzes set in the app

Scored automatically, so there is nothing to enter — the marks arrive in the same record.

Practicals and orals

Entered by hand against the assessment like anything else; the report does not care how the mark was earned.

Several subjects per batch

Kept per subject, because a combined average hides the subject a student is actually failing.

Several batches

Each batch keeps its own record and its own averages.

Questions

About recording marks

How is this different from the report generator?

Two ends of the same pipe. This page is about entering the marks; the report generator is about the document a parent reads. You only need to do the first one — the report is derived from it.

Can I paste marks in from a spreadsheet?

Marks are entered against the assessment for the batch rather than pasted in bulk. That is deliberate: a partial bulk submission is the classic way to wipe the students who were not in the paste, and the record is too important to risk for a few seconds saved.

Do students see each other's marks?

No. A student in your class sees their own record only. Nothing is published to the web, and other teachers do not see your grades unless you share them.

Does it work out the average and the trend?

Yes — class average, distribution, and each student's direction across their previous tests. Those are calculated from the marks you entered, not typed separately.

Can I send a progress report to a parent?

Yes, generated from the marks already recorded. It is written to be read by a parent rather than decoded by one.

What about quizzes I set in the app?

Those score themselves and land in the same record, so there is nothing to enter for them.

Is it free?

Yes — recording marks, the reports and the progress reports are free, with no ads.
