⚡ Veda Bites

The whole idea, one bite at a time

Veda Bites are swipeable micro-lessons — each one teaches exactly one idea. Here's a taste from this kit; the app has the full deck.

💡 Key Idea

Finding east

Start with the sunrise.

The Sun rises in the east. Face the rising Sun and you are facing east.

↳ Sunrise marks east.

⚙️ Process

From east to the rest

All four in one go.

↳ Left north, right south.

📖 Definition

Cardinal directions

The four main ways.

↳ Four names, one star.

💡 Key Idea

What a map is

A bird view.

A map shows a place from above. Roads become lines and buildings become blocks.

↳ Seen from the sky.

💡 Key Idea

Reading the sides

Find north first.

North is at the top. So the bottom is south, the right side east and the left side west.

↳ North up, east right.

📖 Definition

The key

The little box.

↳ Read the key first.

📖 Smart notes

What you'll study, topic by topic

  • North is opposite south, and east is opposite west.

Reading a Street Map

A map of Neem Chowk has two roads crossing at a bus stop. Rekha uses it to name corners, choose turns and work out which building lies nearest to her.

  • A map is a drawing of a place seen from above.
  • North is at the top of the map, so the right side is east.
  • A key tells you what each symbol on the map stands for.

Grids and Positions

Green Park is drawn on a grid. Ayaan counts along and then up to fix each place, writes it as a pair of numbers, and follows routes measured in metres.

  • On a grid, count along from zero first and then count up.
  • A position is written as the column number, then the row number.
  • The pair (4, 5) is not the same place as the pair (5, 4).
