Veda Bites are swipeable micro-lessons — each one teaches exactly one
idea. Here's a taste from this kit; the app has the full deck.
💡 Key Idea
Inverse Trig Functions Give You the Angle Back
Trig gives ratios; inverse trig gives angles.
If $\sin\theta = x$, then $\theta = \sin^{-1}x$. The inverse function undoes the trigonometric operation and returns the angle.
↳ $\sin^{-1}x$ is NOT $\frac{1}{\sin x}$ — it is the inverse function, not a reciprocal.
📖 Definition
Principal Value Branches: Why Restrictions Exist
Periodic functions need a haircut to invert.
Trig functions repeat, so they are not one-to-one. We restrict each to a principal value branch where it is strictly increasing or decreasing.
↳ Every inverse trig function has a fixed principal range — memorize these intervals.
➗ Formula
The Reciprocal Identity: $\sin^{-1}x = \csc^{-1}(1/x)$
Inverse of reciprocal = reciprocal of inverse.
↳ Reciprocal identities connect inverse pairs, but watch the sign conditions.
